A judge in Cairo has handed down a two-year sentence to up-and-coming star Shyma for "inciting debauchery" in one of her music videos.
The 21-year-old has also been fined approximately €477. While the video's director Mohamed Gamal has also received the same sentence and fine.
In the video, the singer licks an apple and then she pours milk over a banana and then mimics fellatio on the piece of fruit. The numbers "69" appear on a blackboard behind her in the video too.
Shyma was arrested on 18 November after police received complaints about her song 'I Have Issues'.
One local newspaper even went as far as to declare that "Shyma presents a lesson in depravity to youths".
The backlash promoted the singer to offer an apology on Facebook. She wrote: "I didn’t imagine all this would happen and that I would be subjected to such a strong attack from everyone, as a young singer… who has dreamt from a young age of being a singer."
This isn't the first time that someone has been imprisoned there for a controversial music video. Back in 2015, a female dancer was locked up for a year for "inciting debauchery" in a music video.
Its expected that Shyma and Mohamed Gamal will now appeal their sentences.
Here's the video that prompted their arrests.
