MY BOY: The Philip Lynott Story

By Philomena Lynott

This fully updated version of My Boy documents the story of rock Legend Philip Lynott. Written by the woman who knew him best - his mother Philomena - the book charts the heady days of Thin Lizzy and the tragic chain of events which ended her son's life and plunged her into a fierce depression from which she only slowly recovered. Also included in this updated edition are interviews with the brother and sister Philip never knew he had.

What They've Said About This Book

“A book to move your heart and touch your soul, like the best of Philip Lynott’s music.”

- Frank McGuinness

colm henry

Born in Dublin, Henry was for 12 years the main photographer with Hot Press. He then concentrated on lifestyle magazines, including Image and VIP, and book productions in Ireland and the UK. He transformed a convent in Co. Waterford into an impressive print gallery. In 2009 he released his first limited-edition set of prints, featuring his personal favourite photos of U2 who he’s shot since their very early days, Rory Gallagher, Phil Lynott and other Irish rock heroes. Henry maintains a gallery of his iconic rock images in Dun Laoghaire Shopping Centre.

liam quigley

Liam Quigley was Ireland’s pioneering music photographer. From a musical family, which includes Peter, bassist Pat and guitarist Ger, as well as Fran Quigley (originally of the Band Centre and now boss of CAVS), he began taking pictures during the early days of the beat boom. Liam worked extensively with Spotlight Magazine and during his stint there photographed all of the major showbands of the day. He also shot many of the up and coming beat groups who were breaking through at the time. He worked with Philip Lynott and Thin Lizzy from the early days and enjoyed unique access to the band, travelling abroad with them on a number of occasions, including to Amsterdam, where he took some memorably candid photographs. The work represented here is a small proportion of his Thin Lizzy catalogue.
