WATCH: Paul McCartney fronts Nirvana

It takes something pretty special to trump the likes of Bruce Springsteen, The Rolling Stones, The Who, Kanye West and Billy Joel but that's exactly happened at a New Jersey fundraiser last night.

It was the 12-12-12: Concert For Sandy Relief that brought Sir Paul McCartney together onstage with Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic, as well as sometime guitarist Pat Smear, acting as something of a Nirvana reunion.

The group performed new song 'Cut Me Some Slack', penned by McCartney and Grohl for the Grohl's upcoming Sound City documentary.

McCartney acknowledged the significance of the meeting (sans, of course, the late Kurt Cobain) at the beginning.

"So recently, some guys asked me to go and jam with them," he said. "I finally understood that I was in the middle of a Nirvana reunion."
