UPDATE: Pete Doherty's Irish shows postponed following jail sentence

Libertines frontman pleads guilty to cocaine possession charge

The Hot Press Newsdesk, 20 May 2011

Pete Doherty has been sentenced to six months in prison after pleading guilty to cocaine possession.

The troubled rocker entered the guilty plea at a sitting of Snaresbrook Crown Court in London earlier this afternoon. The verdict came following a police investigation into the death of Doherty's filmmaker friend Robin Whitehead in 2009.

The ruling forces Doherty to cancel his current tour of the UK. It remains to be seen whether or not the Libertine will make his planned Oxegen appearence, but with the possibility of generous parole and a reduced sentence for good behaviour , there's still a chance that the he will take to the stage at Punchestown in July.

UPDATE: MCD have announced that Pete Doherty's upcoming Irish shows have been postponed until later in the year, with new dates to be announced shortly. The affected shows are:

Friday May 27: The Academy

Saturday May 28: Nerve Centre, Derry

Sunday May 29: Mandela Hall, Belfast

All tickets for the above shows will be valid for the new dates.
