U2 top American earners list
The band's trans-Atlantic exploits earned them $108 million in 2009.
Billboard magazine has confirmed U2 as the highest-grossing act of 2009 in the States.
The band’s 360° Tour has to date brought in a cool $108 million, which compares to the $57.6m pocketed by Bruce Springsteen, Madonna’s $47.2m, AC/DC’s $43.6m, Britney’s $38.8m and Pink whose coffers were swelled by a derisory $36.3m (in case you’re wondering, we’re being sarcastic!)
Of course it’s not all straight profit, with the 360° bash costing an estimated $750,000 a day to keep on the road.
In the meantime, U2 have revealed that they will be variously supported by Lenny Kravitz, The Fray and Interpol when their US tour resumes on June 3 in Salt Lake City’s Rice Eccles Stadium.
