U2 to take over the globe!

(Well, the Golden ones anyway)

The Hot Press Newsdesk, 20 Dec 2002

U2 may have to free up more space on their mantelpiece with the song they've written for Martin Scorsese's Gangs Of New York, 'The Hands That Built America', being nominated for a Golden Globe.

Also in the running for 'Best Film Song' are Madonna's 'Die Another Day' and Eminem's 'Lose Yourself'.

Edge and Bono gave '…Hands…' an airing last week at a post-premiere party in New York City Public Library.

"The surprise was to be able to move from 1846 to 2001 in one song," Bono enthuses. "Thanks to Marty's spectacular time-lapse in the ending of Gangs, we could do that and stay true to the faces of the past and the present…faces familiar to our own, the Irish in America."

The singer has also confirmed that he'll be participating in Nelson Mandela's Robben Island concert – by satellite.

Taking place on February 2, SOS Mandela will raise funds for the millions of African AIDS victims.
