'Original Love', penned for Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom, is up for Best Original Song.
The nominations for the 71st Annual Golden Globes were announced last week and it is U2 that are flying the flag for the Irish. The Dublin band's 'Ordinary Love', a track written specifically for a new film about the life of the late Nelson Mandela, is in the running for Best Original Song.
They will be up against Coldplay's 'Atlas' (included on the Hunger Games: Catching Fire soundtrack), as well as offerings from Taylor Swift, Idina Menzel, and the Inside Llweyn Davis collaboration between Oscar Isaac, Justin Timberlake and Adam Driver.
Having won plenty of acclaim to date, Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom features in other categories, with lead actor Idris Elba nominated for Best Actor and the film's music composer Alex Heffes up for Best Original Score.
It marks the first time a South African film has garnered three Golden Globe nominations.
The awards ceremony will take place on Sunday January 12, with Tina Fey and Amy Poehler returning as hosts. For the full list of nominees, click here.

'Ordinary Love' is Bono and co's first new song in over three years. It was recorded with producer Brian ‘Danger Mouse’ Burton, known for his work with artists such as Gorillaz, the Black Keys and Beck. There are plenty of Danger Mouse’s fingerprints on the track and it marks a move in a more contemporary direction than the band went for on for their previous record, 2009’s No Line on the Horizon.
U2 fans will have to wait a little longer for any word on their thirteenth studio album, though there are strong rumours that details will be announced during the half time break of the Super Bowl in February.
