Writer Nic Pizzolatto has reportedly begun scripting the third season of the HBO drama.
After getting mixed reviews for its second season, it seemed like HBO had quietly washed their hands of True Detective. As we approach two years without a follow-up, however, it appears that work has begun on a third season.
According to Entertainment Weekly, True Detective creator Nic Pizzolatto is back working on new episodes. He’s reportedly completed two scripts so far, and he's not working alone. Deadwood creator/writer David Milch has joined the team to work alongside Pizzolatto, though it’s not currently clear what form his collaboration is taking.
Details are still sparse and HBO has yet to give the new season a greenlight, which means that it's too early to start talking about who could play the leading roles this season, although Matthew McConaughey has previously expressed his desire to return to his first season role as the troubled detective Rustin “Rust” Cohle.
