After twelve months out of the green shirt, the flying wing reflects on a glorious comeback while sizing up a massive year ahead, in the new Hot Press Annual
By rights, 2014 could have been a miserable year for Tommy Bowe, as injury ruled him out of Ireland’s Six Nations triumph. November, though, saw the Monaghan man make a winning return; he tells HP’s Colm O’Regan that he’s delighted to be back in action.
“Being injured is a horrible place to be,” he admits. “Unfortunately, though, it’s part of the territory; it just comes with the game. To be back into the squad again after being out for a little is great, and to get some scores is just the icing on the cake! There’s a huge amount to play for this year, but it’s a fantastic start to the season.”
With the World Cup coming into view, hopes are high for the men in green, and Bowe admits that while he’s staying focused on more immediate goals, preparations are already underway for the tournament.
“I think you can see the squad is already building,” he says. “I missed out on the Six Nations this year, which was massively disappointing, but guys like Dave Kearney and Andrew Trimble stepped up and did brilliantly. We’re developing a big squad, and I suppose the coaches are doing that with the World Cup in mind.”
