Ting Tings nab song gong

The Ting Tings received the College Award for their multi-platinum debut album We Started Nothing at The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) Awards in London.

Calvin Harris won the Vanguard Award for his unit-shifting debut album I Created Disco, and Coldplay scooped the coveted song of 2009 with ‘Viva La Vida’.

Songwriter Steve Booker also won an award for his song ‘Mercy’ which was a massive hit for Duffy.

Paul McCartney was voted Songwriter Of The Year, while Phil Collins received a special award for his song ‘In The Air Tonight’, his first solo hit back in 1981. There were also awards for the Eurythmics' ‘Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This)’, and Dido for ‘Thank You’.

These ASCAP Awards are for members of the UK Performing Rights Society whose musical compositions are rated among the most performed works in the USA.
