Thrill me again

Hot on the heels of their Ambassador stormer last week, The Thrills announce a return visit to Dublin in February. Also: read on for album details

The Hot Press Newsdesk, 28 Jan 2003

Not content with having royally rocked Dublin’s Ambassador on Friday last alongside The Datsuns and The Beatings, The Thrills have announced details of an upcoming gig at Dublin's Temple Bar Music Centre.

Set to take place on February 28, tickets for the show are sure to sell out quicker than you can say Santa Cruz - so take HP’s advice and book yours sharpish.

In other Thrills news, the quintet’s hugely anticipated debut LP (which was recorded in LA’s sunny climes and produced by Beck and Air man Tony Hoffer) has been pencilled for release this autumn. We await with bated breath…

Nothing Changes Around Here

So here it finally is: the long-awaited return of The Thrills. In their absence, their legendary status has oddly increased. Unfortunately for them, they’ve also returned to a domestic scene where the bigger Irish bands are on the cusp of something amazing, and the smaller acts are creating a real air of excitement. In this context, more of the same just doesn’t cut it. It’s radio-friendly, sunny and memorable, thanks in part to Conor Deasy’s unique singing and Tony Hoffer’s spot-on production, but they certainly didn’t spend their three years working on a new direction. Here’s hoping that Teenager will prove that something – anything – changes around here.
