The Thrills confirm summer release for third album

The Thrills have confirmed that they’re putting back the release of their new album until the summer.

The Hot Press Newsdesk, 02 Mar 2007

“We’re still applying the finishing touches,” says Conor Deasy of the collection, which was originally mooted for late March/early April. “A healthy proportion of our friends and acquaintances are screaming at us to just put it out. Perhaps we’re losing our minds! And being obsessive! But we’re so close to making the album we always wanted to make. Nick, our A&R man, has gallantly stood by us through thick and thin. Sometimes these things take time.”

Meanwhile, Friday February 23 found the lads attending the premiere of a new documentary about them at the Jameson Dublin Film Festival.

Imaginatively titled The Thrills, the 70-minute film follows Foxrock’s finest from St. Patrick’s Day in Tempe, Arizona to Dublin’s Phoenix Park where 80,000 people saw them opening for the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Nothing Changes Around Here

So here it finally is: the long-awaited return of The Thrills. In their absence, their legendary status has oddly increased. Unfortunately for them, they’ve also returned to a domestic scene where the bigger Irish bands are on the cusp of something amazing, and the smaller acts are creating a real air of excitement. In this context, more of the same just doesn’t cut it. It’s radio-friendly, sunny and memorable, thanks in part to Conor Deasy’s unique singing and Tony Hoffer’s spot-on production, but they certainly didn’t spend their three years working on a new direction. Here’s hoping that Teenager will prove that something – anything – changes around here.
