The Stone Roses reunite

The Hot Press Newsdesk, 18 Oct 2011

Fifteen years after The Stones Roses' final incarnation ground to an inglorious halt, today brings news that Madchester's finest are reuniting.

At a 3pm(ish) press conference on Tuesday October 18, held by the four members of the Roses classic line-up –which produced their flawless debut album and the underrated Second Coming – the rumour that has been circulating for several weeks was confirmed to be true.

Ian Brown, John Squire, Reni and Mani all gathered together in a room at London's Soho Hotel in London to announce their plans to reform for two hometown gigs next summer.

It was thought Reni (he bangs the drums) would prove resistant to a reunion, having tweeted ”Not before 9T will I wear the hat 4 the Roses again” several days ago, but he arrived on cue, in a limo, with guitarist John Squire.

The group revealed that they will play two initial shows at Manchester's Heaton Park on June 29 and June 30, which will be followed by a world tour.

In perhaps the biggest news, the four confirmed that they will be playing new songs.

Of the possibility of an album, Brown said: "We hope so. But we said that before, didn't we?" Brown also revealed: "We've had offers to do it two, three times a year."

How long will the 'extensive' tour last? According to Brown, “We’ll ride until the wheels fall off.”

The Stone Roses

“More important than Picasso,” said Damien Hirst. “Music’s Kevin Keegan,” opined Nicky Wire: there was a lot of hyperbole spouted in the run-up to the Roses’ first Irish show since the infamous Ian Brown cat-strangling incident at Féile 95 – a gig I walked out of halfway through for fear of permanently souring our relationship.
