The Saw Doctors and Smyths make €10,000 donation to Vincent De Paul
Charity single 'Red Cortina (A Capella)' proved a top five hit
Owing to the great chart success of the acapella version of 'Red Cortina', The Saw Doctors and Smyths Toys managed to raise a fantastic €10,000 for the Society of St. Vincent de Paul.
The presentation of the €10,000 cheque was made by Jamie Darby, Marketing Manager of Smyths Toys, to Val McNicholas, Area President of St. Vincent de Paul, Galway last Friday afternoon at the Smyths Toys Store on the Headford Road. Leo Moran and Davy Carton of The Saw Doctors were also in attendance.
In December, the two parties teamed up for this very worthy cause. The Galway trad legends released a brand new acapella version of 'Red Cortina' as a charity single, with Smyths donating an additional euro to St. Vincent de Paul for every track sold through iTunes up until December 10.
Next week, The Saw Doctors will travel to the USA at the invitation of the Governor of Maryland, Martin O'Malley, to headline his Inaugural Ball in Baltimore MD on Wednesday January 19.
Governor O'Malley, who was re-elected for a second term last November, is a hugh fan of The Saw Doctors and lists 'Green and Red of Mayo' by the band as one of his favourite songs.
The Docs are then set to return to Dublin on Saturday April 2 for a show in the Olympia Theatre. They sold out the venue when they last performed there in September. Tickets from €24 inclusive of booking fee, are on sale now.
