Over the past year, the Jameson Bow Street Sessions have facilitated some brilliant collaborations between rising Irish musicians. The series now continues in Cork, with a fascinating hook-up between Pleasure Beach and Wyvern Lingo.
The Jameson Bow St. Sessions have witnessed some genuinely spine-tingling moments, as Dublin Gospel Choir teamed up with Otherkin and Maverick Sabre, Trinity Ensemble joined forces with Hermitage Green and Gavin James, while HamsandwicH and R.S.A.G. took part in their own remarkable collaboration.
Now, in the latest instalment in this fascinating series, Pleasure Beach and Wyvern Lingo will take to the stage in The Crane Lane Theatre in Cork – in a first venture outside Dublin for the Bow Street Sessions. The night will also see a special appearance from Irish beatbox champions, the brilliant duo, Amaron + Magic. Complimentary tickets for the event are going fast, so if you want to get in on the action, make sure to apply for yours on hotpress.com now.
Invited By The Artist
Both Wyvern Lingo and Pleasure Beach have been seasoned by a summer of successful festival-hopping – during which their paths crossed, albeit briefly. “We actually saw Pleasure Beach perform at The Great Escape festival,” laughs Caoimhe from Wyvern Lingo.
They’ll be getting to know one another just a little bit better in advance of the Jameson Bow Street Sessions.
“It’s an unusual idea to be teamed up like that”, she says of the upcoming Sessions, “but I think working with them will be really interesting.”

Their appearance at The Great Escape proved to be fortuitous for the Wicklow trio. It led to a special request from one James Vincent McMorrow to accompany him on his tour.
“He sent the message through to us asking if we’d tour with him,” says Caoimhe. “It’s the nicest circumstance, to actually be invited directly by the artist.”
The tour is currently underway and Wyvern Lingo will bookend it with their Bow Street Sessions date in Cork.
A Massive Treat
In a similar vein, Pleasure Beach are preparing to support Bell X1 on tour in Ireland – and also for two nights in London in November. Alan Haslam, Pleasure Beach’s lead singer, says that they are really ready for the challenge after a highly productive summer.
“When you’re performing festivals almost every week,” he notes, “and doing all that high intensity stuff, it makes you into a really coherent unit. We were working from March right up until August, and Electric Picnic was the last festival we did. We’re super-tight as a band now.”
Both artists speak highly about the benefit of collaborative events like Bow Street Sessions for Irish music.
“These events are a great platform for bands,” says Caoimhe. “But there’s also the added bonus of playing with someone like Pleasure Beach, in that we get exposed to each other’s fans. It’s invaluable having this kind of press and the mungling of fanbases. And with the Bow Street Sessions in particular, these things might sound strange when you hear at first, but they always turn out to be really memorable. This’ll be no exception: we’ll make it memorable!”

Alan is equally enthusiastic about the idea of collaboration. “We’ve shared stages with Wyvern Lingo before,” he says, “but this’ll be the first time we’ve done this kind of collaborative work. I’m really looking forward to it. They’re a really talented group. It’d be different if it was a bunch of stand-offish, hairy dudes – but with Wyvern Lingo, we know what to expect and we’re really excited.”
Alan hints that there will a few covers when the bands team up. Caoimhe, meanwhile, readily confirms that pop gems will be on the agenda. Neither are ready yet to divulge more, but if the night delivers anything like Wyvern Lingo’s spine-tingling recent rendition of ‘When Doves Cry’, we’re in for a massive treat.
