Either the music news of the 21st century or just the latest spate of Pixies reunion rumours - only time will tell!
After years of speculation since their contentious split in 1993, The Pixies are said to be reuniting. Could this be the rumour that proves true?
Messageboards and web sites were ablaze yesterday with the titillating report that The Pixies would not only breathe again but tour the world and – wait for it – possibly even record a studio album.
Pixies fans across the world are no doubt still wet in their collective pants from the news, founded or not.
According to MTV.com, who first broke the story with a report from a "band spokesman", the band has not yet met for rehearsal, "but, given their ugly breakup in 1993, the announcement is one of the most unlikely and anticipated reunions in the history of indie rock."
Following up the MTV scoop, Billboard.com reported that April 2004 has been suggested for the band’s comeback. Their source, Frank Black’s "manager" is quoted to have said, "I have received an offer for the Pixies to perform in April. That said, over the past 10 years, I have received dozens of offers for the Pixies."

Hot Press, however, is only inclined to believe Pixies reunion scoops if it’s from the horse’s mouth. (Or else the horse’s attributed spokesman.)
Speaking exclusively to Hot Press when he was recently in Dublin, Frank Black had brushed off reports of a Pixies reunion, putting the rumour-mill activity down to media misinterpretation.
"I think aloud a lot when I’m doing interviews and I think people are very excited about a reunion happening. So people ask about the possibility and just because I don’t come out and say ‘no, no, no’ people kind of interpret that as ‘He’s gonna do it! He’s gonna do it!’ So you’ll just have to see," he added with a smile, "You never know."
