The very sad news from Cork is that The Pavilion music venue has ceased operations with immediate effect.
“Sadly we are closed of now,” they say in a message to local gig-goers. “We did our very best. Thanks for all the good times. To our brilliant staff, all the bands, DJs and of course you. We know you loved the place as much as we did!”
Mourning the news is Red FM’s Keith “KC” Cunningham who says, “Very sad to hear that The Pavilion is closing. They put on shows that no one else would. Big loss for Cork.”
“We are beyond gutted,” add the Feel Good Lost collective. “Our home in Cork is gone. Thank you so much for being incredibly supportive of us and creativity in Cork.”
“My favourite venue to play in Ireland bar none; huge loss for Cork,” says Ruairi from Bantum; “Great venue and always great to us,” notes Niall Breslin while Cork’s Blue Monkey PR agency proffers: “Nuts. Not just one of Cork’s but one of the country’s better venues. Hope everyone there remains within music as they’re a sound bunch. Respect.”
Hot Press knows firsthand what a top notch venue The Pav is having staged two fantastic Jägermeister Freezer Session nights there.
As KC alludes to, theirs was a very eclectic booking policy with Samaris, The Ollam and Mynameisjohn & God Knows among the acts who sadly now won’t get to play there this month.
