With new songs and guest musicians, it promises to be a special occasion at the iconic Dublin venue, next week…
The Matthews have been sharpening plans for their debut gig in Whelan’s on Wednesday, June 3. The highly rated young outfit – formerly knows as Children of the Son – have been busy rehearsing in their Wicklow stronghold.
"There will be four brand new songs in the set," lead guitarist and songwriter in chief, Max Matthews, told Hot Press. "Rehearsals have been going brilliantly, so we’re really looking forward to it."
In addition to new songs, there will be additions to the line-up for the occasion – which hint at a broadening of the band’s musical palette. "There will be some really awesome surprise guest musicians," Max reveals. "I don’t want to say too much now, but things are shaping up really well."
Support on the night will be provided by Root Cellar.
The Matthews comprise the brothers, Art Matthews (bass), Jack Matthews (vocals) and Max Matthews (guitar). A new ep will be available on the night, featuring four tracks: ‘Colourblind’, ‘Do You Really Want Me', ‘Colorblind' (piano version), and 'Do You Really Want Me' (piano version). There will also be new T-shirts bearing The Matthews name.
The Matthews play Whelan’s Upstairs, Wednesday, June 3.
