Widely regarded as Ireland’s pre-eminent U2 cover band, the Dublin four-piece will be doing two shows at the Grand Social to mark the day that Larry Mullen pinned the note to the noticeboard in Mount Temple Comprehensive, looking for like-minded souls to form a band.
The Joshua Tree have confirmed plans to mark the 40th Anniversary of U2’s formation.
The band, who are rated as the best U2 tribute band in Ireland, have lined up two gigs at The Grand Social to mark what is a momentous milestone for U2 fans. They play on Saturday September 24 and Sunday, September 25, and will do a full two and a half hour set on both nights.
“The set on both nights will be completely different,” drummer Stephen Forde told Hot Press. “We’ll be covering all of the big tunes, but there’ll also be some surprises in store, so it’s going to be a fantastic occasion for U2 fans.”

The Saturday show is already sold out, meaning that Sunday tickets are likely to be at a premium pretty quickly. The Saturday night is being promoted in association with the U2 fan site @U2 (atU2.com) and among the special guests will be Peter Rowan – the young fella on the front sleeve of U2’s remarkable debut album, Boy! – and Ivan McCormick, the guitar player who was among the musicians who gathered for the original rehearsals of what was to become Feedback and later U2).
The Sunday night show will also feature a DJ playing rare U2 songs and remixes. All in all it promises to be a U2-tastic weekend – and one for the fans to savour.
