John and Bernie Gallagher have purchased the Docklands venue for €28 million.
Ireland's largest theatre is now off the international market. Having gone on sale back in July, the Bord Gáis Energy Theatre has become the property of John and Bernie Gallagher. Bernie is the daughter of late businessman PV Doyle, while the couple are best known for having an interest in a number of hotels, including The Westbury.
The Gallaghers paid €28 million for the Dublin venue, having apparently outbid the likes of Live Nation and MCD. The purchase was made by Crownway Entertainment, a division of the Gallaghers' Crownway Investments.
John Gallagher is himself a rock ’n’ roller, having played in various bands – including supporting his pals in The Riptide Movement at one of their Olympia shows.
The 2,111-seat venue was originally developed at a cost of €80m and opened as the Grand Canal Theatre in 2010 as part of businessman Harry Crosbie's portfolio. NAMA took control of it in 2013.
