After famously denouncing streaming services such as Spotify, Taylor Swift recently caved in and made her music available to stream again- so was it worth it?
Pop star Taylor Swift never kept quiet about her opinions on music streaming services. When she removed her music from the streaming service Apple Music, she wrote an open letter to Apple, saying, “We don’t ask you for free iPhones. Please don’t ask us to provide you with our music for no compensation.” Now, Taylor seems to have changed her mind, and her music is back on websites like Spotify and Pandora. It’s been two weeks since then, and already she’s earned $285,000 with 4.75 million streams on Spotify in America alone.
Not a bad payoff especially considering the rumour that Taylor brought her music back for a more trivial reason- it was the same day Katy Perry released her new album, and so fans assumed taking away her spotlight was just another move in the famous Swift/Perry feud. Hopefully that’s not the reason though, as Katy herself recently said she’s looking forward to letting everything go. In an interview with the Huffington Post, she said, “There are bigger fish to fry and there are bigger problems in the world. I love her and I want the best for her, and I think she’s a fantastic songwriter and, like, I think that we both, her and I, can be representatives of strong women that come together despite their differences.”
