Having lost its GAA coverage to RTÉ and Sky, the station says a "small number" of positions will become redundant.
TV3 has today announced that it will be offering staff voluntary redundancy packages, though it should mean the loss of less than 10 employees.
The move follows news earlier this week that the broadcaster will not be broadcasting any of the GAA football or hurling championship matches this year – or for the following two years. Sky Sports secured the exclusive rights to broadcast 14 GAA matches, while RTÉ secured 31 games in the All Ireland Championships.
TV3's statement says that the scheme will be offered to "a small number of staff whose positions will become redundant because of changes to the way that the company operates. The scheme has been introduced to offer flexible options to our staff at a time when TV3's programming strategy is changing to reflect an increased focus on originated content."

It runs counter to earlier media reports that all TV3 staff were being offered voluntary redundancy.
