Mundy, Maria Doyle Kennedy and David Kitt last night added their voices to the campaign to elect Michael D. Higgins as the next President of Ireland.
All three were among the performers who joined The Stunning on stage at a special gig for Michael D. in The Village.
The appearance of David Kitt and Mundy – Edmund Enright to his parents – is seen as especially significant, as both come from specific party political backgrounds. David Kitt's father Tom Kitt is a former Fianna Fáil TD and Junior Minister. Mundy's family, meanwhile, was also steeped in politics: he is a cousin of the former Fine Gael TD Olwyn Enright and a nephew of the former Fine Gael TD and Senator, Tom Enright. That both artists are supporting Michael D., as the campaign enters its final week, represents a serious boost for the former Minister for the Arts, confirming that he has the potential to attract support from across the political spectrum.
Mundy joined The Stunning onstage for a rousing cover of 'Jackson', which segued into Bruce Springsteen's 'I'm On Fire' - on which Mundy took lead vocals - before shifting back for a fiery end to the Johnny Cash and June Carter classic.

"When I'm talking to people, I just tell them to look at Michael D.'s final speech to the Dáil," David Kitt told Hot Press. "Listen to every word of it. Those are my politics. That speech says it all about why he is the man to elect as president."
The line-up on the night was completed by indie favourites Si Schroeder, Joe Chester and Ghozties. Among the other musicians, celebrities and rock 'n' roll activists who turned up to support Michael D.'s campaign at what proved to be a stonkingly good gig were Derry actress and musician Bronagh Gallagher (who starred memorably in Pulp Fiction), Kieran Kennedy, Bláthnaid Ní Chofaigh, Anna Nolan, TV producer and director Billy McGrath, Donal Scannell and Susan Scannell – who organised the gig – and comedian and writer Carol Tobin, among others.
