The 'Live at the Rockpalast' series of DVDs seem to be going down well in Germany, with Thin Lizzy's charting at number five and Rory Gallagher's shooting to the top of the music DVD charts
The DVD of Rory Gallagher live at the Rockpalast in Germany, released in March of this year, has hit the No.1 spot in the German Music DVD charts. The DVD, entitled Rory Gallagher At Rockpalast, is of the Rockpalast concert which the late guitarist gave in the Grugahalle in Essen in 1977, and which became the first ever pan-European broadcast of a rock gig.
The DVD was originated in Germany but is now available in other European territories, including Ireland and the UK, where it is released through Pinnacle.
"It could have been anticipated, but then it does come as a big – and nice – surprise that the DVD has gone to No.1," says Peter Ruchel, the producer of the Rockpalast concerts. "I think it indicates that there is an overwhelming interest in the real thing – classic Blues and Rock played, by the master."

Thin Lizzy's appearance at the Rockpalast event is another of the six initial DVD releases in the Rockpalast series, and it also charted in Germany at No.5. Featuring 'The Boys Are Back In Town', 'Don't Believe A Word' and 'Rosalie' among other classic Lizzy live tracks, the DVD is called Thin Lizzy At Rockpalast – and it captures the Irish rockers in what was one of their final recorded outings.
With the success of Rory Gallagher At Rockpalast, the possibility has already been raised that further DVDs might be possible, bringing together a number of performances from that were filmed in 1979, 1982 and 1990.
