Team Hot Press is deeply saddened to learn of the death of Robert ‘Throb’ Young who handled guitar duties for Primal Scream from the mid-’80s until 2006 when he quit the band due to health problems.
“RIP Robert Young,” says Scream Team friend and collaborator Irvine Welsh. “One of the best, the most beautiful, who was rock ’n’ roll. Big love bro, give them it big time over on the other side.”
“A real good ‘un,” notes Tim Burgess; “Saw him down in Hove recently and he looked well and happy; love to all his lot,” writes Suede’s Mat Osman while Liam Gallagher offers a simple, “Live forever!”
Hot Press spent a particularly memorable night hanging out with Throb and his bandmates after they’d played a hometown show at the Glasgow Barrowlands. A party animal, for sure, but also warm, funny and a hell of a player. He’ll be sorely missed.
