As part of the Dublin Fringe Festival, a new show about a fictitious band – which is billed as part gig, part interview – is being staged at the Smock Alley Theatre Boys School. Entitled ‘Gladys and The Gutter Stars’, the show runs from tonight until 17 September.
The production features newly written songs and lyrics by songwriter/actor Cameron Macaulay and Rachel Gleeson, an up-and-coming actress who was most recently seen in the lead role in ‘The Water Orchard’ by Collapsing Horse at the Project.
This show is being described as a “quirky meditation on the malaise and neurosis afflicting a generation of 20-something creatives”.
'Gladys and The Gutter Stars' aims to explore, mock and ultimately celebrate what it means to create and what it means to fail.
Part gig, part interview, the show is an intimate interview and performance from one of the "most overlooked" fictional bands of 2017:Gladys and The Gutter Stars. They’ll discuss the making of their self-titled debut album, and all the triumphs (and tribulations) involved in the process.
The story tells how, in a strange turn of events, Gladys, the group’s enigmatic front-woman, has not been heard from in the six months following the album’s release. Rumours abound. As the blurb explains, "Some say she is now a snorkeling instructor in Palau. Others say that she is simply down in Cork. Perhaps the two remaining Gutter Stars might shed some light on the mystery? Or perhaps deepen it?"
The plays runs for 60 minutes and the evening shows are at 6.45pm Matinees, with matinees on 16 Saturday & 17 Sunday 17 at 12.15pm.
Tickets cots €12-14 and can be booked through www.fringefest.com or by calling: 1850 374 643
