Philo fans head to Arklow

Friends of Phil Lynott are gearing up for the third Thin Lizzy Charity Tribute Event at the Arklow Bay Hotel in Co Wicklow.

Attractions already confirmed for the event on Sunday May 2 include headliners Tin Lizzy, the Rory Gallagher tribute act A Taste of Rory, Horslypse, a seven piece Horslips tribute band and the Wicklow rock band Quarantine Hill. Colly, the acoustic guitarist from Gorey, will open the show. Phil Lynott’s mother Philomena is likely to attend.

Doors open at 8.30pm with bar extension till late. Admission €20. Tickets go on sale from Friday April 23 at The Arklow Bay Hotel, Earls Newsagents in Wicklow Town and Whites Music Store, Gorey.

The weekend will also involve an auction, including a t-shirt signed by Barry Devlin from Horslips and other members of their December 2009 line-up. A similar t-shirt will be up for grabs in the Monster Raffle (with over €1,000 worth of prizes) at the Bridge Hotel on Monday May 3 with music by Doey Walsh starting at 9pm.

Friends of Philo will hold their 2nd Charity Art, Photographic and Memorabilia Exhibition at the Visual Arts Centre in Arklow from Friday April 30 until Friday May 14 with works by Irish and overseas artists. Admission is free and donations accepted.

As the event’s organiser Colm Weadick told Hot Press, after expenses are paid all profits from the weekend will go to The Wicklow Hospice Foundation, Arklow Drugs Awareness and The Roisin Dubh Trust. Over €4,000 went to charity from the same event last year.
