OXEGEN TRIUMPHS AT UK FESTIVAL AWARDS
Fans have voted Ireland’s Oxegen as the ‘Best Overseas Festival’ at the prestigious Festival Awards.
The Hot Press Newsdesk, 20 Nov 2009
It's the second year running that Oxegen has triumphed at the awards after winning ‘Best European Festival’ last year.
The UK Festival Awards ceremony was held last night (Thursday 19th November) at London’s IndigO2. Over 400,000 votes were cast at www.festivalawards.com and OXEGEN saw off tough competition from festivals around the world including Spain’s Benicassim, Coachella in the USA and Ireland’s own Electric Picnic.
This new honour caps an incredible couple of weeks for Oxegen as it also scooped the accolade of ‘Top Festival Worldwide’ at The Billboard Touring Awards in New York last week.
Some of the artists who helped make Oxegen 09 so special also claimed awards including Kings Of Leon who won ‘Anthem of The Summer’ for ‘Sex On Fire’ and Florence and The Machine for ‘Best Breakthrough Act’.
Oxegen returns to Punchestown Racecourse, Co Kildare from 9th-11th July 2010 (subject to licence). For further information, please visit www.oxegen.ie.

Keeping up this year’s trend for credible big name acts releasing frankly poor follow up albums, the Kings were found wanting badly on Because Of The Times. ‘Fans’ was one of the few moments when they got it right, a light footed tune that sees them break out of their Southern Strokes straightjacket. Shame there wasn’t more where this came from.
