Nick hits the Sauce
We didn't see that one coming dept: Irish songwriting legend Nick Kelly and LA-Irish girlbeat combo Saucy Monky team up for double-header nationwide tour
In what promises to be one of the most interesting double-bills of the autumn, Nick Kelly will join Irish LA outfit Saucy Monky for a brace of dates on their upcoming tour.
Nick Kelly, the songwriting maestro who was lead singer with highly respected '90s contenders The Fat Lady Sings, embarked on his solo career with the acclaimed album Between Trapezes in 1997, released on his own label, Self-Possessed Records. Work on his debut short film over recent months has kept Kelly somewhat out of the Irish gig-circuit spotlight of late, so this double-header tour represents a welcome return to action for one of Ireland's finest songsmiths.
Saucy Monky, meanwhile, have been generating considerable momentum with their debut album, Celebrity Trash. With its Bangles-y West Coast feel and songwriting finesse, the album seems 2003's perfect feminine companion to The Thrills' acclaimed California-cated eponymous debut. Saucy Monky's single 'Don't Wanna Know Your Name' has increasingly been picking up airplay on local stations around Ireland, inbcluding East Coast Radio, South East Radio and WLR.
The two confirmed live dates for this intriguing pairing are Whelan's, Dublin (Sept 16th) and Spirit Store, Dundalk (17th). Other Saucy dates will be added over the coming weeks.
