New issue of Hot Press explores Irish sexuality

Inspired by recent mammoth sales of 50 Shades Of Grey, our new issue includes an in-depth feature on 'Sex in Ireland'...

The Hot Press Newsdesk, 12 Jul 2012

In the new issue of Hot Press, we explore all aspects of Irish sexuality - from bondage and polyamory to sexual health, sex work, and how advances in technology are affecting people's sex lives.

As part of this feature, we interview with a threesome committed to polyamory, and chat with the couple who run Ireland's BDSM night, Nimhneach.

As well as this, Anne Sexton offers an open and honest reflection on BDSM. "Just don't try to order me around," she says...

We also meet a former sex worker, who opposes the criminalisation of prostitution. Plus, we give you news from various Irish sex shops, and an analysis of the E.L. James phenomenom.

"The astonishing success of the 50 Shades Of Grey has taken everyone by surprise," says Hot Press editor Niall Stokes. "It seems like a very good background against which to take a fresh look at people's attitudes to sex and to sexuality in Ireland. We've uncovered a brilliant collection of brave and interesting people, who refuse to accept the conventional, moralistic view of sex that was handed down to most of us.

"And there's plenty of fun in the issue too with Anne Sexton's lists of the sexiest books, films, blogs and so on. It's special edition of the magazine that's certain to get people talking. We'll be following it up with all sorts of other angles on the theme over the coming weeks, but our latest issue is a really fascinating start to that ongoing discussion."
