With the Strypes blasting The Beatles' classic 'Come Together' in an ad for Harley Davidson, we look back at other musicians who've appeared in commercials
BOB DYLAN
Bob Dylan announced in one of those playful/farcical 1960's press conferences that he'd only sell out to corporate interests if asked to flog "ladies garments."
This is not strictly true as, believe it or not, 'The Times they are a-changin'' has been used in advertisements for American accountancy firm Coopers & Lybrand and the Canadian Bank of Montreal.
But the man himself has personally appeared in just one ad, selling - ladies garments.
The ad in question was for Victoria Secret in 2004.
Bob Dylan, looking wizened and soulful, sings his track 'Love Sick' while a model donning presumably Victoria Secret's gear throws a few shapes and a few longing glances in the background.
JOHNNY ROTTEN
Johnny Rotten advertised Country Life butter in 2008, gleefully setting fire to his reputation as a nihilistic, anti-establishment ruffian. Ironically, the manner in which he shattered the punk convention of not doing things like flogging products in ads, was followed through with an almost anarchistic abandon.
STATUS QUO

While Bob Dylan at least made sure to advertise something sexy, Status Quo recently appeared in an ad advertising one of the least glamorous products possible. Coles Mince decided they needed a rock band to help shift units and they enlisted the Status Quo fellers. It was down on Australia but unfortunately for the boys, the internet has developed big time since they had their heydey, and the footage managed to travel up this way. The boys sang somewhat sheepishly about how prices for the mince had gone "down, down, deeper and down." It proved if nothing else that the song was truly built for advertising business.
