The Hot Press Newsdesk, 31 Oct 2012

Music Network announced the results of the Arts Council Music Recording Scheme 2012 today.

The scheme - funded by the Arts Council and managed by Music Network - awards funding to performers and composers working primarily in non-commercial genres, and also aims to ensure that their work is available.

65 applications were received in 2012, and a total fund of €71,500 was distributed to winners.

Among them were Sean Carpio and Mark Garry, who were awarded €7,800 to document and extend a performance art project called Drift. Harpist Siobhán Armstrong was given €9,935 to record the first in a series of five CDs.

Mezzo-soprano Sharon Carty was awarded €9,999 to mark the Benjamin Britten centenary year via a recording of a selection of his folk song arrangements, while the Louth Contemporary Music Society was awarded €10,000 to produce the world premiére recording of Monk’s Music by Russian composer Alexander Rastakov.

Those interested in applying for funding next year should head to www.musicnetwork.ie/musicians/funding.
