Mixed fortunes for RTE as JNLR figures revealed

The latest listening figures make for interesting reading...

There was bad news yesterday in the JNLRs for Ryan Tubridy whose 2fm show has lost 4,000 listeners over the past year. The dip is sure to place fresh pressure on Tubridy, with a station insider admitting that “the whole question of mid-mornings is being looked at.”

At the same time, his Today FM competitor Ray D’Arcy added 15,000 listeners. He attracts a daily audience of 249,000 compared to Tubridy’s 172,000.

There was better news for Radio One with Morning Ireland’s 449,000 listeners still the biggest audience in the country, and the usual strong showings for Pat Kenny, John Murray and Marian Finucane whose Saturday and Sunday shows added 20,000 and 15,000 listeners respectively.

In one of the major duke-outs, Mary Wilson’s Radio One Drivetime show was listened to by 245,000 people compared to the 166,000 and 130,000 who tune into Matt Cooper’s The Last Word on Today FM and George Hook’s The Right Hook on Newstalk. Overall, Newstalk gained 22,000 listeners last year, which makes for a daily reach of 308,000.

Radio One remains the country’s most “listened to yesterday” station with a 25% market share followed by Today FM (14%), 2fm (11%), Newstalk (8%) and Lyric FM (4%). There was particularly good news at Lyric for John Kelly whose show has added 6,000 listeners.

It’s pretty much as you are in Dublin with FM104 the most “listened to yesterday” with 21% followed by Spin 1038 (15%), 98FM (13%), Q102 (11%), Radio Nova (5%), Sunshine 106.8 (4%) and Phantom 105.2 (2%). Around the country, Beat 102-103 is notably up 2% to 22%, with Spin South West also up 2% to 20%.
