The June Bank Holiday Weekend event was launched in style last night, with sets from Fresh Ré, Millon Little Gods and Amorica.
Celebrating its 25th Anniversary, the Leixlip Festival officially unveiled its full 2014 line-up at a press launch in the Court Yard Hotel – which will be the scene of the big festival gigs – last night.
Fresh Ré, a ridiculously young and talented urban-influenced quintet from Celbridge, kicked things off in terms of entertainment, before Meath trio Million Little Gods wowed the assembled with a confident, expansive set that showcased the shedload of alt. rock tunes they already have in their arsenal. Amorica, a Dublin-based band by way of Bulgaria, ended proceedings on a high.
As for the festival itself, things kick off Thursday May 29 and don't stop until late on Monday June 2.
With Big September set to play the Court Yard on Thursday night, Raglans and The Riptide Movement raising the roof Friday and a fantastic run of bands on Saturday (Bouts, Million Little Gods, Leaders Of Men and O.R.B would be impressive on any festival stage) just to begin with, organisers are definitely backing up their tag as "best kept secret" of the festival season.
There is a €10 cover charge on the Friday, Saturday and Sunday for the Court Yard main stage. More details for the five-day event in the Kildare spot (a simple train or 66 bus away from Dublin's city centre) can be found at [link]www.courtyard.ie[/link].
