New York Festivals International TV & Film Awards recognise chef and national broadcaster
There'll be excess baggage on the way home from Las Vegas, as RTÉ productions scooped a pair of paperweights at the New York Festivals International TV & Film Awards last night.
The award ceremony, which recognises the world's best work on both big and small screen, honoured two Irish productions.
Kevin Dundon's Modern Irish Food, produced by RTÉ Cork and aired on RTÉ One, was awarded Silver World Medal - the highest award given in the inaugural Food Series category. The show, which has been broadcast from coast-to-coast in the States - as well as across continental Europe - beat off competition from around the globe to win out.
Dundon (pictured above) was joined on the winners' rostrum by the RTÉ Investigations Unit, for their headline grabbing Fatal Failures, the much-discussed revelation of children who died as a result of care failures at the Midland Regional Hospital, Portlaoise. That grabbed the Silver World Medal in the Best Investigative Report category.
Commenting on RTÉ’s glory, Channel Controller for RTÉ One Adrian Lynch said: "We are very proud of the achievements of these two RTÉ One programmes at the New York Festivals International TV & Film Awards. To receive these awards is truly remarkable. I would like to pay tribute to the work of the RTÉ Investigations Unit and RTÉ Cork who continue to produce world class television content and keep Ireland on the map as a major player in global television.”
