Kevin Barry wins IMPAC
The Dublin Literary Award goes to City Of Bohane.
It's a big "congratulations" to Kevin Barry this Friday afternoon as we learn that he has won the IMPAC Dublin Literary Award.
The Limerick-born, Sligo-living author has scooped the €100,000 prize – the third time an Irish author has done so – triumphing with his novel City Of Bohane.
In the process, he fended off competition from 153 other titles, selected by 160 libraries from 44 countries around the world.
The 10 shortlisted titles included works from the US, UK, France, Iceland and Japan.
Last year, Hot Press caught up with the author – then fresh from winning the Sunday Times EFG Private Bank Award – for an extraordinarily frank interview everything from LSD, Chinese marriage scams, death threats, the IRA and daffodil theft.
