'Tendency To Be Free' is due out at the start of next month
Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr has announced he'll release a single next month for Centrepoint - a charity working to improve the lives of homeless young people.
The track, entitled 'Tendency To Be Free' was a '60s garage rock cult anthem, written and recorded by Rabbit Mackay, and originally released on the album Passing Through in 1969.
Marr's version (on which he lends his unique guitar sound) is due to be released on October 4.
The track will also feature on Centrepoint's upcoming compilation album 1969 : Key To Change, which is out on October 4. The album features a series of contemporary artists performing songs from 1969 - the year Centrepoint was founded. Among them are The Feeling with their version of 'In The Year 2525', Hard-Fi taking on the Stooges track '1969', and Get Cape Wear Cape Fly with their take on David Bowie's 'Space Oddity'.
