Depp portrays one of Boston's most notorious gangsters in the new film
The story of Boston gangster Whitey Bulger is one so remarkable it's a wonder that it isn't fiction. But Bulger, currently serving two life sentences after a long stretch of time in hiding (he was at one point second on the FBI's Most Wanted List, behind only Osama Bin Laden), is very much real and new film Black Mass looks like a chilling glimpse at the life and times of the gangster and FBI informant.
It's felt like a while since Johnny Depp has proven that he's capable of much more more than his whimsical Mortdecai, Lone Ranger and Alice in Wonderland types of characters, but he is downright terrifying in the new trailer, in which an innocent conversation about preparing steak turns into an unbelievably tense test of trust.

Also starring Benedict Cumberbatch, Joel Edgerton and Adam Scott, this definitely looks like one to see. Check it out in theaters this September.
