Jerry Fish claims top 10 spot

In what is a very strong performance by an independent Irish artist, current Hot Press cover star Jerry Fish has debuted at No.7 in the Irish album charts with his new record.

The Hot Press Newsdesk, 01 May 2009

The Beautiful Untrue is Fish's first record in five years, but he's successfully taken up where he left off, with a very strong sales performance.

Among the guest vocalists on the album, which has been highly acclaimed, are hot rockabilly newcomer, Dubliner Imelda May, and Carol Keogh, who performed the single 'Back To Before' on the Late Late Show with Fish last week. May's own album Love Tattoo is still claiming a top 10 position at No.10, 14 weeks after it first hit the Irish charts.

Meanwhile, buoyed by the popularity of the single 'The Ballad Of Ruby Walsh', Christy Moore has topped the Irish charts for the second week running with his Listen album. With Bob Dylan's Together Through Life going straight in at No.2, it is a great week for SonyBMG, who occupy four out of the top five positions.

The week's other impressive new chart performance comes from Dublin three piece Bipolar Empire, whose debut single 'Feel That You Own It' has gone straight in to the singles charts at an impressive No.21. The single is a trailer for their album, which is produced by Madonna and REM man Pat McCarthy and set for an autumn release.
