Jay and Silent Bob for Dublin
Your comedy listings for the fortnight ahead...

Jay and Silent Bob, the alter egos of Jason Mewes and Kevin Smith, first appeared onscreen in Smith’s 1994 comedy Clerks. The pair went on to feature together in Dogma, Chasing Amy, Mallrats and of course, Jay And Silent Bob Strike Back, garnering a cult following along the way.
This fortnight, Mewes and Smith pop their Irish cherry, playing two dates in Dublin’s Vicar St. on February 21 and 22. The does-what-it-says-on-the-tin show, Jay And Silent Bob Get Old will be filmed, allowing fans to watch the performances back via smodcast.com. (Well, they do say the memory’s the first thing to go).
Jay and Bob aren’t the only visitors from across the pond, mind you. Michael Winslow, aka ‘The Man of 10,000 Sound Effects’ heads to Galway’s Roisin Dubh (18) and the Boggers Lounge, Ardee (19). Winslow is probably best-known for his role in the Police Academy series, and is scarily good at mimicy and impersonations. (Check out his performance of Led Zeppelin’s ‘Whole Lotta Love’ below, if you don’t believe me).
Also in the Roisin Dubh this fortnight is David McSavage (11). The comedian and creator of RTÉ’s The Savage Eye will then head to the Venue Theatre, Meath (16) and finally on to Vicar St. (18). Tommy Tiernan meanwhile will spend the fortnight in Offaly (spose someone’s got to). Catch him in The Thatch, Rahan (16) and the County Arms Hotel (18).
Finally, the award for oddest named comedy show goes to Aidan Bishop, who brings Mispelled: Do Dyslexics Make the Best Comedians? to Dublin’s Workman’s Club (10). It’s not quite as mental as it sounds. The show sees Aidan, a dyslexic, discuss being diagnosed with the disorder. Meanwhile, big bro Des does his thing in the Bush Hotel Dock Arts Centre in Leitrim (17).
