Fox Searchlight Pictures acquires the rights to Brooklyn, starring Saoirse Ronan and Domhall Gleeson.
Just yesterday we reported on the acclaim Irish films Brooklyn and Glassland garnered after their premieres at the Sundance Film Festival. Now we have word that one of those has been picked up for distribution by Fox Searchlight Pictures. Brooklyn will see a wide release later this year.
The John Crowley directed film is based on a novel by Colm Toíbín and tells the story of an Irish girl torn between separate lives in her home and 1950s New York City. Saoirse Ronan stars in the lead role and is supported by Domhall Gleeson and Michael Zegen.
Fox Searchlight has an impressive track record for the films they put out. This year alone, they distributed Oscar-nominated films Birdman, Wild, and The Grand Budapest Hotel as well as acclaimed Irish film Calvary, starring Brendan Gleeson. In 2013, Searchlight put out best picture winner 12 Years a Slave. Their eye for talent is sharp!
