Indigo Girls have a hot new double-album and a Dublin date lined-up for this month.
New Album Poseidon And The Bitter Bug out now on IG Recordings/Vanguard Records and will stop off at Tripod in Dublin for a live gig on October 29 with special guest Stephanie Dosen.
Poseidon And The Bitter Bug is Indigo Girls’ first studio album for three years and it contains two CDs, one featuring a full band and the other an acoustic disc with a bonus track.
Now with their own record label IG Recordings, the Girls have come full circle, weathering the ups and downs of the music industry to emerge with their musical vision and enthusiasm intact. The new album reunites the Grammy-winning duo with veteran producer, arranger and keyboardist Mitchell Froom who worked on their acclaimed 2006 release Despite Our Differences. Long-time bassist Clare Kenny, drummer Matt Chamberlin and engineer David Boucher make up the rest of the core band, but the sound is pure Indigo Girls, with uplifting, effortless harmonies, honest, passionately involved lyrics and infectious melodies.
The album was recorded in Atlanta in a whirlwind three-week session to keep a sense of spontaneity and discovery in the process. As Amy Ray puts it, “I feel a great sense of freedom in finally being rid of the major-label world. It’s been a burden for a while for me. I felt an honesty and sincerity making Poseidon, because I fully believe in independence.” Her partner Emily Saliers says, “It fees liberating and centering, even in the midst of change.”
