The rain didn’t prevent Indiependence 2014 from an incendiary start on Friday, as the Mitchelstown party kicked off for another year.
The Hot Press Hot Spot also got rolling, and welcomed Irish talents like We Cut Corners and The Altered Hours, who both impressed with superb performances later in the evening.
Superstars-in-waiting Walking on Cars showed just why they are so hotly tipped, as they packed out the main stage for a phenomenal festival performance. It was hard to imagine the confines of Deer Farm will be enough to hold the crowds they’ll draw in a few years’ time; truly, they are a band destined for greatness.
In the end, though, it was wily veterans who stole the show. Dan le Sac vs Scroobius Pip used their last Irish performance to show just what we’ll be missing. From crowd-surfing in armchairs to maniacal sing-alongs, the love-in at the Big Top tent ensured that the night – as well as their eight year partnership – ended on a massive high.
