Hermitage Green are the latest Irish band to ink a deal with a major record company. The popular Limerick-based acoustic folk rock band have signed with Sony Music. The first product of the liaison will be a single and video, entitled ‘Jenny’, which has a Marriage Equality theme. The single is being released on June 5, but the video is available from today. The vote in the same sex referendum takes place in less than a week’s time, on May 22.
The single is the first material from the band’s debut major label album, which Hot Press understands, is coming down the turnpike soon. Hermitage Green formed in 2010. The band, which has a strong set of sporting links, comprises five members: former Irish sprint champion Darragh Graham (banjo, djembe and vocals); songwriter-in-chief, Darragh Griffin (guitar, vocals); kickboxing and boxing champion, Dan Murphy (vocals, guitar, dobro, harmonica); All-Ireland champion bodhrán player, Dermot Sheedy (percussion); and former Irish rugby international and ex-Munster stalwart, Barry Murphy (bass, vocals).
