Bondi Beach Boy Blue, the play by Benny McDonnell set to open at Wexford Opera House on Monday July 26, owes its title to Dublin- based band The Guggenheim Grotto and their song ‘Portmarnock Beach Boy Blue’. The Grotto, who have had their music featured in several high-profile TV shows in the USA, including One Tree Hill, Brothers and Sisters, Men in Trees and Six Degrees, have contributed a specially-recorded version of the song for the show. The play, set in Ireland and Australia, is a bittersweet comedy about two friends, the world of hurling and falling in and out of love. It’s directed by Donal Courtney and features Aoife Coghlan, Paul Connaughton, Chris Gallagher and Martin Maguire.
