After a long illness, Anderson dies at 69
Hot Press was saddened to learn of the death of broadcaster Gerry Anderson.
The Derry born radio presenter enjoyed a 30 year career, in which he is credited with reinventing radio in the North.
He had, however, been off the airwaves for about two years, due to ill health.
News of his death prompted a rush of tributes from a host of public figures. Phil Coulter remarked, “It’s the end of a chapter, and the passing of a friend. He was a giant; he redefined radio in Northern Ireland.”
Fellow broadcaster Stephen Nolan said: “Gerry Anderson was a broadcasting genius. He didn’t need a script because he could create magic out of nothing.” Another old colleague, Gloria Hunniford, remembered “his marvellous irreverence, without stepping over the mark. He was one of those gems.”

Politicians also paid tribute to the late star. Ulster Unionist Party leader Mike Nesbitt said: "He was a very generous, encouraging man who had no fear of rival talent. The BBC is a poorer place today."
SDLP MP Mark Durkan said Anderson had "earned a special standing with his wit, warmth, his way with words and his off-the-cuff, on-the-button observations. Derry has lost a very special son, an unceremonious ambassador, and broadcasting has lost a limited edition of one."
Ar dheis Dé go raibh a ainm. May he rest in peace.
