It's all treats, no tricks for this Hallowe'en edition of Free Music Friday.
Having been forced to put in a post-Bank Holiday four-day week – bloody slave drivers! – Free Music Friday is delighted to be heading over to its mammy in Sevenoaks, Kent for some TLC. First though, we’re delighted to bring you another quality batch of tunes, trailers and vids starting with this sneak peek at the Glen Campbell documentary, I’ll Be Me, which includes Edge, Bruce Springsteen, Chad Smith and Taylor Swift among its superstar admirers. Not for the first time recently, Mr. C is making us cry…
Marilyn Manson has a new track, ‘Third Day Of A Seven Day Binge’, which is yours for the price of signing-up to his [link]http://www.marilynmanson.com/[/link]
By Mazza’s standards it’s a restrained affair, with a deliciously sleazy hook and almost Muse-like instrumentation. Its parent album follows in the New Year.
There’s an abundance of Noise Trade riches to be had this week. First up is a four-tracker from Butch Walker, a much-tattooed Georgian (as in the US state, not the Eastern European country) who’s the missing link between Ryan Adams and Ray LaMontagne.
The alt. country doesn’t stop there with Butterfly Boucher, Rebecca Roubion, Maggie Eckford, Jars Of Clay, Amy Stroup, Angel Snow and Brook Waggoner among those featuring on the 2014 Nashville Indie Spotlight sampler.
Completing a very fine Noise Trade hat-trick is An Introduction To Streets Of Laredo, the titular band being a Brooklyn – where else? – combo who are equal parts Arcade Fire and The Lumineers, but not as formulaic as that might sound.
Mixtape of the Week goes to Future, the Atlanta spitter whose Monster collection includes a bass bin-rattling collaboration with Lil’ Wayne.
Coming in a close mixtape second is Run The Jewels 2, a new set from Killer Mike and el-p, which includes contributions from BOOTS, Zack de la Rocha and Travis Barker. The http://t.co/8u29pLI11O link has been crashing a fair bit, so perseverance is required.
He wants $9.99 for it but you can try Mykki Blanco’s Gay Dog Food mix before you buy below.
To the streams now and [link]www.npr.org/series/98679384/first-listen[/link] has the latest from Neil Young, Bob Dylan, Deerhoof, Les Sins, Grouper and Daniel Lanois who also has a gorgeous new vid for your viewing pleasure; [link]3voor12.vpro.nl/luisterpaal/albums.html[/link] adds Baptists, Harry Merry, Cooly G. Obliterations, Rancid and The Ting Tings to the mix; depending on geo-positional niceties, [link]albumstreams.com[/link] can sort you out with Theophilus London, Amelia Curran, Sundays, The Feelings, Lagwagon and Deptford Goth; [link]www.theguardian.com/music/series/album-streams[/link] has upfront listens to Simple Minds, Deerhoof and Yusuf, and [link]www.theguardian.com/music/series/album-streams[/link] wants you to check out Over The Rhine, a husband and wife duo from Ohio who really do make beautiful music together.
Sinéad O’Connor rocks the clerical dog collar and leather trousers look on the video for her new single, ‘8 Good Reasons’ - eight being the number of eyes that her four children have.
Shot on the upper deck of a Dublin Bus, it’s a heartwarming affair.
We have to confess getting our hankies out watching the new video for Tim Wheeler’s ‘Vigil’, which like its parent album, The Lost Domain, addresses his father’s death due to Alzheimer’s. A definite Single of the Year contender…
NASA - as in the Northern American Space Agency - has launched its own SoundCloud channel, which features classic astronaut quotes, rocket engine sounds and curiosities like lightning on Jupiter, which are all available for free download and sampling. Get on it you cosmic riders
We absolutely adore ‘Mean World’, a gorgeous tune from High Elders, AKA Auxiliary Phoenix and Gentle Jones. It’s like wrapping yourself in a warm duvet, so it is!
And that’s it for another week. Sorry if we didn’t get to you this time round - we were seriously avalanched with tunes - and keep those links coming to @stuartclark66
