In what turned out to be a pretty well-kept secret, Temple Bar’s Meeting House Square was the venue on Thursday August 31 for Franz Ferdinand’s free Channel 4 Vodafone TBA gig.
The winners of the text ticket lottery were treated to an hour-long set, which kicked off at a furious pace (‘The Fallen’ and ‘Do You Wanna?’), got even livelier in the middle (‘Take Me Out’ and ‘40ft’) and went completely ballistic at the end (‘Outsiders’ and ‘Darts Of Pleasure’).
The band were joined for ‘Outsiders’’ now traditional free-for-all drum solo by BBC Radio One’s Colin Murray who had a pint of Guinness thrown over him by Nick McCarthy for his troubles.
Franz were drafted in as an eleventh hour replacement for Keane who pulled out when frontman Tom Chaplin was admitted to The Priory with drink and drug problems.
