Our man Olaf Tyaransen is on the beat in Groningen, where Ian Wilson says, “Eurosonic is the most important event an Irish band can get to.”
It was a busy day for the Irish at Eurosonic yesterday with SOAK (pictured above), All Tvvins, The Riptide Movement, All The Luck In The World and Sisters amongst the homegrown acts flying the flag in the Dutch city of Groningen.
“Eurosonic is the most important event an Irish band can get to,” says veteran RTE producer Ian Wilson, talking exclusively to hotpress.com. “It is the most important event worldwide, full stop.”
Having broadcast live on 2fm for no less than twelve Eurosonics, Wilson knows what he’s talking about. “The reason is very simple – it’s doable for an Irish band.
“You can come over here without spending too much money and you can expect to get a result.
“If you’re any way talented at all you will get noticed because the event is so highly selected, if relatively small.
“This is a tenth the size of an event like South by Southwest. We’re just swamped at an event like this because this is heavily curated by the organizers and because of all the media and live music involved, you will get a result.
“Talk to [The Strypes' manager] Joe Clark, talk to the people in Kodaline, talk to James Vincent McMorrow, talk to Little Green Cars, talk to SOAK after this and they will tell you that this event gets them into more live festivals and more radio stations and more events across Europe than anything else.
“It just works.”
