Stradbally will be awash with high-minded debate and discussion between September 2-4
One of the big draws of every Electric Picnic, the MindField area returns this year and looks set to be bigger and better than ever. A unique site for all things spoken-word, 2011 sees appearances from the likes of Bob Geldof, Roddy Doyle and John Banville.
A rundown of just some of the likely highlights:
Bob Geldof waxing lyrical in the Leviathan tent; Booker Prize winners John Banville and Roddy Doyle taking to the Arts Council Literary stage; Nobel Laureate Jerry White on surviving landmines; the MindField News Quiz hosted by RTÉ’s Sean O’Rourke and performances by fiery London rapper Kate Tempest in the Word tent
As per usual, economist and broadcaster David McWilliams will host the Leviathan debates with themes this year include “I Predict a Riot: Economic Violence and Civil Unrest” with panellists Luke ‘Ming’ Flanagan TD, Kate Tempest and others; “All the News That’s Fit to Print?: Media Ethics and Politics” with a senior News International figure and controversial political blogger Guido Fawkes.
